Shooting In West Evanston Sends 20-Year-Old Man To Hospital, Police Say

The shooter fled the scene but a heavy police presence is expected to remain near Foster Street and Ashland Avenue.

EVANSTON, IL — A man was rushed to hospital after suffering a gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon in Evanston.

Officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Foster Street and Ashland Avenue shortly before 5 p.m, according to Evanston police.

They found a man who had been shot by a shooter or shooters who had left the scene, which is located near Foster Field in the 5th Ward. Police said they believed the gunman may have left the city.

"The motive is presently unknown, but the initial investigation indicates this is not a random act," police said.

Police said the 20-year-old man was taken to an area hospital by the Evanston Fire Department. His condition was reported as stable.

Police asked the public to expect a large number of officers in the area and to stay away from the area of Foster and Ashland.
