On Tuesday, its first shipment of emergency supplies arrived at the Health Ministry in Kyiv after the organization halted normal activities and switched to emergency operations in Ukraine.

Robert Strom, owner of the restaurant, said the decision to donate to MSF was made in conjunction with his wife, Wendy, a healthcare professional.

“We looked at various organizations, all of which are doing amazing things," Robert Strom said, "but Doctors Without Borders has a special place in my wife’s heart."

Strom hopes to raise a total of $3,000 from the soup sales at the restaurant, a fixture of downtown Evanston for the past two decades, over the course of the four-week fundraiser.
