Teen Arrested for Armed Robbery, Striking Victim with Gun

The 15-year-old allegedly stole a bike and cell phone from an alley on Dewey Ave.

A 15-year-old Evanston boy has been charged with aggravated robbery for brandishing a handgun and then hitting his victim in the head with it while stealing the a bike and cell phone, Evanston police said.

The robbery occurred Tuesday at 4:45 p.m. in an alley in the 1300 block of Dewey Ave. according to police. The teen approached the victim, showed a handgun and demanded the bike and cell phone. After getting the victim’s bike, he struck the victim in the head several times with the gun and left on the bike.

Police had a description of the teen and found a subject matching the description near Dewey and Crain. After a brief chase, they caught him and he was identified by the victim, police said. Officers also found a starter pistol on the teen.

The teen will appear in juvenile court, so there is no future public information about him.
