Thousands Without Power In Evanston, Wilmette Due To Thunderstorms
Power outages hit about 1 in 7 ComEd customers in Evanston and 1 in 6 in Wilmette Monday afternoon amid reports of downed trees and lines.
EVANSTON, IL — Thousands of households lost electricity service Monday on the North Shore as thunderstorms passed through the area, downing trees and power lines.
About 4,600 ComEd customers in Evanston and 1,000 were without power shortly before 2 p.m., according to the power company.
In total, ComEd reported more than 500 active outages and about 25,000 customers without power. Residents reported downed trees and power lines after thunderstorms passed through the area.

Evanston reported some traffic light disruptions and partial street blockages due to downed trees, but no intersections or road closures.
By 4 p.m., ComEd reported fewer than 2,300 customers without power in Evanston and under 1,000 in Wilmette.

"ComEd is increasing crews and necessary equipment due to severe thunderstorms moving through the service territory," the company said. "We are continuously monitoring the ongoing weather and crews will be performing restoration"
