Three Evanston Businesses Failed Tobacco Compliance Check

Three Evanston businesses recently made unlawful sales to minors without asking for age verification during tobacco compliance checks conducted by Evanston Police Department’s Juvenile Bureau, according to a press release. 

The businesses were issued city ordinance violations for selling products to a minor under 18 and have a mandatory administrative hearing on March 19.

The three businesses were:

• Spex Mart, 1235 Dodge Ave.
• 7-Eleven, 2536 Ewing Ave.
• Jewel Food Store, 2485 Howard St.

Evanston police conducted the checks at 40 businesses by sending an underage teen into the establishment to try and buy cigarettes while under police surveillance. One business was closed during the compliance checks and the other 36 businesses passed.
