Work Crew Strikes Gas Line In Evanston, Causing Leak

There is no current danger to the public, Evanston officials said.

EVANSTON, IL — Work crews in Evanston struck a gas line Friday morning, causing a gas leak in the area officials said.

According to the City of Evanston, crews struck the line in the 2600 block of Lawndale Avenue at approximately 10:10 a.m. Though there is an odor of gas in the area, officials said there is no danger to the public at this time.

Nicor Gas and the Evanston Fire Department are on the scene. Repairs are anticipated to take a few hours and Lawndale Avenue is closed between Hartzell Street and Park Place until further notice.
