Can Head Sets World Record for Cans Stuck to a Head

The longtime Evergreen Park resident is pulling down some bucks advertising businesses on his sticky skin, too.

James Keeton of Evergreen Park recently set the Guinness World Record for the number of cans stuck to a person’s head. Bet you didn’t know there was a record for that.

But there’s a world record for just about everything — Guinness lists 58 records for activities involving cans, including largest can pyramid and most cans crushed by a breast. And if anyone should hold a record for cans stuck to a human head, it’s Keeton, popularly known as Can Head.

More than 20 years ago at a ballgame, Keeton discovered that his skin acts like a suction cup. He placed a cold can against his head to cool off, and then he was distracted by a foul ball.

“Where did my can go?” he asked friends, who saw the can stuck to the back of his head.

He can stick virtually anything to his skin except clothing and textiles. He’s one of only a handful of people in the world known to have this rare skin condition.

“My skin breathes in more oxygen than the regular person,” he told Patch in a 2011 profile, and his body temperature is several degrees higher than normal, too.

His doctor in Oak Lawn, Dr. Win Myint, told ABC News the condition is a mystery.

“I’m not quite sure why his skin is like that, but he is definitely not sick and in fairly good shape,” Myint said.

A Glimpse of Can Head in Action

Today, Can Head charges companies thousands of dollars to advertise their products on his body. And he has a lot of fun with his unique ability. Keeton has appeared on TV, on the Ellen show — where he poured her a drink from the back of his head — Jay Leno, Jimmy Fallon, and he’s been profiled by ABC and WGN.

“People pay me to wear their products, to advertise their names or business on my shirt or cans. I also MC events, concerts, sporting events, parties, anything,” Keeton says.

His sticky skin has also allowed him to meet various celebrities, including George Clooney and Adam Sandler.

“It’s exciting for me and my friends and family,” Keeton told ABC News. “But I try to stay humble. One of my friends said if my head gets too big, he’ll knock me out.”
