The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Laflin Street in Auburn Gresham, according to police, who said the 41-year-old victim was found in a vehicle in an alley, with gunshot wounds to his back and face. “The Barraco family and staff are deeply saddened by the events of last night,” the pizzeria said in a statement on Facebook. “This young man was a friend to us all and he will be greatly missed. We will be working diligently with the Chicago Police Department to bring justice to him and his family.”

Neighbors told WLS there were several abandoned buildings near the scene and Talavera may have been lured to a robbery. Talavera moved 20 years ago from Mexico to Chicago, according to the outlet, which reported he was single with no children and had worked for Barraco’s for years.
