No One Injured After Ember Falls From Evergreen Park Fireworks: FD
The annual celebration at 50-Acre Park went on as scheduled after firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire in a grassy area.
EVERGREEN PARK, IL — No one was injured on Monday night after a small ember from the fireworks display at the annual Evergreen Park Labor Day Concerts and Fireworks celebration fell from the sky and briefly ignited a small patch of grass, village officials told Patch on Tuesday.
The event, held at 50-Acre Park on Monday night went on as scheduled after local firefighters responded to the park, village spokesperson Stacy Schuble told Patch. Schuble said that firefighters arrived at the event after receiving a report of a child who experienced an ember landing on their arm. Firefighters were, however, unable to locate the child when they arrived at the park, Schuble said.
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the small fire by stomping the fire out, Schuble said. She added that due to a southwest breeze, some smoke and paper casings were carried over the crowd during the display.
