EP Library Summer Reading Kick-Off Features Petting Zoo, Crafts, Bubble Station And More

The Evergreen Park Public Library kicks off its summer reading club Saturday, May 31, with a party in the parking lot. All ages welcome.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Help the Evergreen Park Public Library kick off the Summer Reading Challenge, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 31. The “Color Our World” reading challenge will be held in the library parking lot at 9400 S. Troy Ave.

The parking lot party features a performance by the Evergreen Park Community High School color guard, crafts, a foam party, petting zoo and bubble station. Culver's frozen custard will be served while supplies last. Library mascot, Booker, will pop in for a visit and free Culver's frozen custard will be served while supplies last and more. Feel free to bring a towel for the foam party and bubble station are bound to get messy. While you're at the library, sign up your family for the Evergreen Park library's summer reading club.

The event is intended to spark summer reading in all ages, especially in children and teens. Book displays throughout the library will focus on a variety of themes, including a display for recent graduates and Pride Month. Best-selling young adult author Deya Muniz is slated for an in-person book discussion at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17.

“We encourage kids and teens to read what they enjoy,” said Mary Black, Teen Librarian and ILA's Young Adult Services Forum manager, who is presently reading Muniz’s LGBT graphic novel, “The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich.”
