EVERGREEN PARK, IL - Terri Pool, a longtime Evergreen Park Community High School English teacher and leader of the EPCHS Education Association (the union for all staff members), is retiring at the end of this school year.

Pool began teaching at EPCHS in 1994 after moving to Chicago from Minneapolis. Originally from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Pool had two teaching jobs in the Midwest prior to landing at EPCHS.

“I can’t believe it has been 31 years,” said Pool, who has taught English at every level but mostly sophomore and senior classes. “The close-knit environment and the staff have made teaching here a great experience."

Her role as either president or co-president of the Association for the past 23 years has been rewarding in that it has given Pool a chance to “support my colleagues, be a voice for them, and help them to find their own voice.”

She will miss the students “who make every day interesting” and her colleagues the most, but looks forward to spending more time with her family in Michigan, traveling, and “being able to say yes to things I was always too busy to say yes to before.”
