Video Sneak Peek: Evergreen Park's Carsons Slated to Open in September
The first phase of Western Avenue's Evergreen Park Marketplace is under way, and officials have given us an early look inside.

With the Grand Opening of the Evergreen Park's new Carson's store fast approaching, construction crews are busy preparing for the big day.
Village officials shared a video this week to give residents a sneak peek of the progress. The store is part of the first stage of the area's plaza redevelopment known as Evergreen Park Marketplace, according to the Evergeen Park website. When complete, the new Western Avenue mall will feature between 30 and 40 stores.

It replaces an aging center with deep roots in The Southland.
"Originally Evergreen Plaza, the shopping center opened in 1952 as an open-air mall, with Jewel, Kroger and Carson's among the early anchors," reported The Chicago Tribune, when the project first made headlines in 2015. "The mall was enclosed in the early 1960s, becoming the nation's first suburban indoor mall. It had 120 stores and a food court at its peak during the 1960s and '70s."

The shiny new Carson's will host a grand opening on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
