“We keep moving forward, we innovate while discovering new opportunities because there are no limits,” says Faulkner, whose leadership of the ministry began in late February 2020, mere days before much of the country went into lockdown. His time with Voice of Care has been marked by finding new ways to do things.

Jazz It Up will be an evening of excellent music, assures Faulkner, who recently attended a performance by Tecson. “This is a chance for full participation for everyone, with and without disabilities. Come celebrate with us!”

The benefit event will welcome, in addition to paid ticket holders, a VIP audience including people of all ages and abilities. This group includes people with disabilities from group homes and facilities whose presence at the concert is made possible through the purchase of VIP tickets. These $50 tickets allow admission for the purchaser and also enables a person with special needs to attend the musical occasion. General admission tickets are $40. The ChurchJazz Ensemble has celebrated the gift of God’s music with people of faith and music lovers across the country for over three decades. The ensemble has been led by Andy Tecson, principal composer and tenor saxophonist, since 1982, and includes Ken Jandes, alto saxophonist, Jerry Coleman, drummer, Bobby Lewis, trumpeter, Stewart Miller, bassist and Nancy Hagen, oboist.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) in the sanctuary at 7300 Division Street, just off of the campus of Concordia University Chicago in River Forest. A reception follows the evening’s musical performance. All proceeds benefit the ministry of Voice of Care, working with churches, providing training and resources to welcome and assimilate people who experience disabilities in inclusive Christian discipleship.
