UPDATE: Brush Fire Burns Abandoned Farm
Firefighters are concerned about wind and dry conditions as they battle a brush fire southwest of LaGrange Road and Stuenkel Road.
A brush fire got out of hand Thursday afternoon and has spread to an abandoned farm southwest of Frankfort, according to Frankfort Fire Dept. Asst. Chief Larry Rauch.
Firefighters said one or two buildings caught fire. They are concerned about dry and windy conditions surrounding the blaze.
No one was found at the farm, officials said.

Officials believe embers ignited the fire at around 2:30 p.m., southwest of the intersection of LaGrange Road and Stuenkel Road.
Fire crews from Frankfort, Orland Park, Tinley Park, Elwood, Peotone, Homer Township and Manteno were on the scene.

Fire officials referred to the event as the beginning of "brush fire season." The soil is wet, but the brush is bone dry. This is the second brush fire in a week in unincorporated Frankfort.
No damage estimate was available on Thursday.
