FRANKFORT, IL — Frankfort residents may soon see work beginning on the ComEd 18-mile Transmission Rebuilding project, which has started at Sauk Trail near Commissioners Park, and will continue southeast to University Park, the Village of Frankfort shared.
The Village said municipal leaders in Will County recently met with ComEd to collaborate on plans to modernize the 18-Mile transmission line, which runs south from Frankfort, to the community of Demotte, Indiana. The project impacts transmission facilities in Frankfort, University Park, Monee and Crete. The first phase of the project includes soil studies, which got underway in June.
According to the Village, the entire project involves the demolition and removal of 110 existing steel lattice transmission towers. The aging towers will be replaced with modern monopole steel structures, accompanied by the installation of upgraded electrical wires.
