Fort Frankfort Construction Finishing By End Of October
The two playground structures will soon be assembled.
FRANKFORT, IL — Renovations at the Fort Frankfort playground continue, and construction should be finished at the end of October.
The project had an anticipated completion around Labor Day, but the park district said a "recent setback" affected the original timeline.
Last week, the park district planned to start installing portions of the poured-in-place play surfacing. Once that is underway, the two playground structures will be assembled, followed by the surface in that area, the park district said.

Then, the entrance plaza and large shelter will be finished.
The new playground will feature two Timber Form play structures purchased from Columbia Cascade, designed with ramps to enhance accessibility for all abilities, the park district said. There will also be several standalone pieces of Burke play equipment, such as the inclusive Orbit, Musical Play Ensemble, Ally Climber Web, an Embankment Luge slide, and numerous swings.

As part of the renovation, there are also two new shelters that will be available for rentals, according to the park district. The larger shelter measures 50’ x 24’, and the smaller shelter, which is associated with the Splash Pad rentals, is 34’ x 20’.
