Frankfort Looks To Sell Surplus Property At White, Elwood
The Village may be looking to sell surplus real estate that it owns at the northwest corner of White and Elwood streets.
FRANKFORT, IL — At its Monday meeting, the Frankfort Village Board approved an ordinance authorizing the sale of surplus real estate that it owns at the northwest corner of White and Elwood streets.
The Board discussed selling the "unimproved, vacant land" at the July 9 committee of the whole meeting "to facilitate immediate redevelopment for commercial use," according to Board documents. The land is currently zoned H-1 historic district.
According to Board documents, permitted uses in the H-1 district are limited to dwelling units above the first floor, health clinic/office, residence of the proprietor of a commercial use, indoor business sales and service and indoor retail sales of goods, and office and professional service. Properties with this zoning also go before the "1890 theme committee."

A certified appraisal established the property's value at $325,000.
The Board's approval will allow the Village to solicit bids for the purchase and commercial redevelopment of the property.
