Frankfort Park District: Pollinator Garden Installed At Commissioner Park – Girl Scout Troop 75476

FRANKFORT, IL — Girl Scout Troop 75476 installed a pollinator garden at Commissioner Park to earn their Bronze Award.

The Troop raised money through the annual cookie sale to fund their project.

The project included the Scouts constructing a raised bed and installing pollinator houses. As you can see the Girl Scouts worked hard building, planting pollinator friendly flowers and decorating the bee houses. The project includes a sign to educate people on the importance of pollinators. Pollinator gardens are important because pollinators like butterflies, bees and hummingbirds rely on the plants in these gardens for food and habitat. Pollinators help to maintain the ecosystem, and pollinate the plants that humans and animals eat. The bee houses are for native bees, not honey bees and are non-stinging species.

The garden is located at Commissioners Park near the Community Garden plots. Thank you to Girl Scout Troop 75476 and their Troop Leaders for improving the ecosystem and investing in the parks.
