FRANKFORT, IL — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

This submission comes from Karen Albrecht who nominated her son Ben McGrane.

Home town: Frankfort

Hero's job: Started a book and school supply drive for underprivileged students in neighboring communities.

Relationship to nominee: My child

Reason for recognition: Ben used his social media following to inspire his classmates to donate books and materials to students in underprivileged communities. Several Frankfort community members teach at these schools, one of which posted a Donors Choose to try to fundraise.

One thing to know: Ben wanted to help our teachers provide much needed materials to their students without having to add a financial burden on top of this trying time in education.

Thank you for all you do, Ben!
