Gas Price Update: Could Relief Be On The Way In Frankfort?
Gas prices are slightly dropping in and around Frankfort. Here's a look at where to find the cheapest gas around.
FRANKFORT, IL — Frankfort residents are seeing few signs of relief at the pump as gas prices in the area remained high Thursday, but that could change soon.
President Joe Biden on Wednesday proposed a three-month gas tax holiday, which could drop prices 18.4 cents per gallon; however, Congress would have to approve the measure, and that has some people skeptical the proposal will become reality.
While motorists wait to see what will happen, average gas prices in Illinois were at $5.48, which is down 6 cents from this time last week, according to AAA.

The average in Will County was above the state average Thursday, sitting at about $5.73 per gallon.
Cheaper gas can still be found if you know where to look, though Frankfort motorists will have to travel out of town to get it.

The cheapest gas in Will County Thursday was at BP, 105 N. Front St. in Braidwood, selling for $5.35.
Here are some other places you can save near Frankfort:
- Casey's, 280 E. Main St. in Braidwood, $5.35.
- Shell, 3195 E. Division St. in Diamond, $5.39.
- Murphy USA, 1481 Brook Forest in Joliet, $5.54.
- Mobil, 1805 W. Jefferson St. in Joliet, $5.55.
Nationally, the average gas price Thursday was about $4.94 per gallon. It was $3.07 at this same point last year, according to AAA.
Illinois' gas prices ranked No. 5 in the lower 48 of the county. Rounding out highest Top 5 states in gas price averages Thursday were California at $6.36, Nevada at $5.62, Washington at $5.52 and Oregon at $5.52, according to AAA. Georgia had the lowest national gas price average at around $4.44.
