Hickory Creek Baseball Team Heads To State Tournament

The team will play the first round match-up at noon on Friday against Dunlap Valley Middle School.

FRANKFORT, IL — The Hickory Creek Middle School boys baseball team has advanced to the first round of the IESA Class 3A state tournament.

The team will play the first round match-up at noon on Friday against Dunlap Valley Middle School. The Frankfort team has a record of 14-2-0, according to IESA.

Hickory Creek defeated Homewood's Hart on Sept. 23 to become sectional champions and advance to the state tournament.

"We saw a lot of growth together as a team leading up to the postseason, and it has shown during the regional and sectional rounds," Coach Josh Purpura said. "We are very excited and looking forward to seeing how we compete with the state's best teams this weekend."

The winner of the first round of the tournament will go on to face the winner of Homer Glen's Homer Junior High School and Chatham Glenwood. The semifinal game will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and the state championship is planned for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Hickory Creek's softball team just won the state championship earlier this week. It was the program's fourth IESA championship.
