Kernel Sweetooth To Hold Grand Opening At New Location

The Frankfort sweet shop has been reopened for a while, but now it's ready to celebrate. Find out when and what's on tap.

FRANKFORT, IL — After leaving Frankfort in late 2017, Kernel Sweetooth is back in the downtown in a new, bigger location. And the ice cream and sweet shop will be holding a special grand opening next week.

The celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 13 at the business' new spot at 10 Elwood St. That's just a short distance from the shop's old location in the Trolley Barn shopping center on White Street.

Kernel Sweetooth will be offering its usual selection of candy, homemade fudge, homemade decorated cookies, ice cream, popcorn and other treats at the grand opening. Free giveaways and samples will be available while supplies last, and the Real Gone will perform live music from noon to 3 p.m.

The shop closed its Trolley Barn location Oct. 24, 2017, after the landlord wanted to go in a "different direction" with the space and wouldn't renew Kernel Sweetooth's lease. The business kept its Tinley Park location, but closed it when it opened the new Frankfort shop in the summer.
