L-W East Rolls Past Homewood-Flossmoor

The Vikings scored first Friday, but the Griffins scored more often in a 48-6 victory.

FRANKFORT, IL — The opening minutes of Friday night's matchup between Lincoln-Way East and Homewood-Flossmoor looked like it had the makings of an offensive shootout, with both undefeated teams scoring quickly and decisively. But the Griffins proved to be too much for the Vikings, winning 48-6 and taking sole possession at the top of the Southwest Suburban Conference standings.

Homewood-Flossmoor (5-1; 3-1) put points on the board first, spoiling L-W East's chances of shutting out an opponent for a fourth consecutive game. That was the only time the Vikings saw the end zone, however.

The Griffins' defense clamped down on H-F running back Leon Tanna, holding him to just 77 yards. L-W East (6-0; 4-0) also intercepted quarterback Dominick Jones just as the Vikings were threatening in the early part of the third quarter.

The offense for the Griffins was equally impressive. Quarterback Jake Baltz threw for 169 yards and three touchdowns, as well as running in a touchdown (see above video). Running back duties were divided up among Devon Williams (73 yards), Jordan Corbett (50 yards, TD) and A.J. Henning (33 yards), who was playing in only his second game of the season.

Homewood-Flossmoor next plays at Bradley-Bourbonnais (2-4; 0-4), while L-W East is on the road against Lockport (0-6; 0-4).
