Lawyer for Man Convicted of Frankfort Murder Says His AK-47 is Missing

The assault rifle was taken out of Brian Trainauskas' bedroom six years ago.

The lawyer for a man convicted of gunning down a pal in his Frankfort Township home claims the cops lost his AK-47.

“It’s unaccounted for,” said George Andrews, the attorney for Brian Trainauskas. “No one seems to know what happened to it.”

Will County deputies took the AK-47 from Trainauskas’ bedroom after he used a Mossberg shotgun to kill Monica Timar, a friend who was staying with him, in January 2009.

Andrews raised the AK-47 issue after Will County Judge David Carlson denied Trainauskas’ bid for a new trial.

Judge Carlson found Trainauskas guilty of the murder in June. Trainauskas has consistently maintained his innocence.

Andrews also asked Carlson to have Trainauskas sent to Dixon Correctional Center due to medical hardship. Trainauskas suffers from polycythemia, Andrews said, a condition that results in an increased level of circulating red blood cells in the bloodstream.

Trainauskas’ sentencing was scheduled for next month.
