Matteson Woman Found In Van Dies From 2 Gunshot Wounds

The 37-year-old victim was discovered Thursday night, slumped in the driver's seat. Authorities have ruled her death a homicide.

MATTESON, IL — A Matteson woman found slumped in a van Thursday night died after she had been shot twice. Joanie Balogun, 37, was pronounced dead at a local hospital, and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled her death a homicide, the Daily Southtown reports.

According to Matteson police, officers responded to a call around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, of a van in the median of the 21600 block of Cicero Avenue, the report stated. Along with discovering Balogun in the driver's seat, police also found five bullet holes in the van and five shell casings about 110 yards south of where the scene on Cicero, the report added.

Police are looking for information concerning a dark gray, four-door sedan that could have been involved in the shooting. The case is being investigated by Matteson police detectives and members of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.
