More Vehicle Break-Ins: Power Tools, Tool Bags Stolen (MAP)

The items were taken the same day but from separate vehicles miles apart in Frankfort, according to the Will Co. Sheriff's Office.

FRANKFORT, IL — Several power tools and two full tool bags were stolen Aug. 18 from separate vehicles nearly three miles apart from each other in Frankfort, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office. The law enforcement agency also received reports of two other vehicle break-ins that same day, although it's unclear if anything was taken in those incidents.

According to the sheriff's office, the power tools were stolen from inside a work van in the 7700 block of West Lakeside Drive. The driver's side door lock had been punched out in that incident, authorities said.

The theft of the two full tool bags happened in the 20000 block of South Hickory Creek Place, the sheriff's office said. The vehicle was unlocked at the time, according to authorities.

Nothing was reported stolen from a van during another Aug. 18 break-in in the 19000 block of South Old Coach Trail. The van's front passenger window had been broken out in that incident, the sheriff's office said.

A work truck's passenger side window also was broken out Aug. 18 while it was parked in the 7500 block of West Hawthorne Lane. It was not known if anything had been stolen from the truck at the time of the report, the sheriff's office said.

These latest incidents came nearly two weeks after a two-day spree around the village of at least 13 vehicle break-ins that included three stolen cars. Many of the cases reported to Frankfort police and the Will County Sheriff's Office from Aug. 4-5 involved unlocked cars.

On Aug. 9, two recreational vehicles were reported stolen from the parking lot of Terry's RV Center, 20450 S. LaGrange Road. Since late March, the village has faced a rash of car burglaries, thefts and break-ins that continues to plague the south suburbs.

Frankfort police urge residents to keep their vehicles locked and never leave keys or key fobs in their cars. Valuables also should not be left in vehicles when possible.

Anyone with information about these incidents or who notices anything suspicious should call Frankfort police at 911 for emergencies or 815-485-2500 for non-emergencies.
