FRANKFORT, IL — With significant snowfall totals expected Tuesday through Thursday, Frankfort residents should be aware of the Village's updated street parking during snowfall policy.

The policy was updated Jan. 3 by the Village of Frankfort Board of Trustees. The new policy bans street parking in the Village when 2 or more inches of snowfall occur until workers have the area cleared of snow and ice, regardless of the time of day.

The previous policy restricted street parking only from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. after 2 or more inches of snowfall.

The new policy is intended to give Village workers more time to clear streets after snow hits the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning in Will County from 8 p.m. Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Frankfort could see between 5 and 11 inches of snowfall accumulation, according to the National Weather service. Significant travel disruptions are also likely.

"The Village seeks voluntary compliance and encourages all residents to remove parked vehicles from the roadway when 2 or more inches of snow has fallen to allow Public Works crews to quickly and safely remove snow and ice from the streets," Frankfort Mayor Mayor Ogle stated via a news release from the Village when the new policy took effect.

Those who do not remove their vehicles from on-street parking could receive a fine of $25, according to Frankfort Police Department.
