Obituary: Janet Gallina

Janet Gallina, 88, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully on the bright morning of Oct. 9.

FRANKFORT, IL — Janet Gallina, 88, of Frankfort, passed away peacefully on the bright morning of Oct. 9, her family shared in her obituary. She was born in Chicago on March 11, 1937, to Frank and Ethel Tyrolt. She grew up in Chicago where she spent her youth working at her family’s bait shop and enjoyed walking through the city with her friends. She married her husband Carl Gallina in 1963 and they moved to Frankfort in 1976 and lived there until her death.

She and Carl opened Frankfort’s first video store and later operated another small business.

They were involved community members, active music boosters at Frankfort Schools as well as Lincoln-Way High Schools. She enjoyed supporting and attending the many and varied activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved the challenge of a crossword puzzle and was an expert Solitaire player.

She also loved connecting with other people, and you could find her on Sunday nights in the summer enjoying Concerts on the Green at Briedert Green talking with friends. Janet cherished time with her family, watching Dancing with the Stars with her sister Nancy, and talking with the many people she connected with throughout her life, especially her breakfast club ladies.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Gallina; her mother and father Ethel
(Llewellyn) and Frank Tyrolt; her sisters Darlene Tyrolt and Nancy Lee Elliott; her brother Charles
Tyrolt (Cora) and Charlie Gambrel.

She is survived by her loving children Carrie Leach (Jim) and Michele Sutter (Tom); her
grandchildren Jeff Crouse (Melissa), Alison Myhelic, Cedar Sutter, and Abigail Sutter; and her
great-grandchildren Aria Crouse and Luca Crouse.

Janet will be remembered for her inquisitive nature, love for her family and God, and her love of
chatting up a stranger and making a new friend.

A celebration of life service will take place at the Manhattan Park District’s Hansen Community Center, 397 State St., on Nov. 2, 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
