Pocketknife Used In Gas Station Robbery: Cops

PLUS: A purse was stolen from another unlocked vehicle, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

FRANKFORT, IL — The following information is from the Will County Sheriff's Office unless otherwise noted. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Armed Robbery

A pocketknife was used in an armed robbery at a Harlem Avenue gas station July 24, the sheriff's office reports. No one was hurt in the incident at the Gas N Wash, 19420 S. Harlem Ave.

According to authorities, the robbery happened at around 2 a.m. when a man asked a station employee ibuprofen was stocked. As the employee directed the man to the medication, he brandished a pocketknife and ordered her to open the cash register, the sheriff's office said.

The man then told the employee to lay on the ground, which she did. Once the employee was on floor, the man stole a small amount of money from the register and fled the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators are reviewing security camera footage in the case, authorities said.

Theft From Vehicle

A purse holding cash, two debit cards, a driver's license and a social security card was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 19000 block of South Arran Drive.
