Fund Your Environmental Project Through The Judy Beck Grant

Applications have opened for the grant, which funds projects focused on conservation, sustainability, engagement and youth development.

GLENVIEW, IL — Individuals and nonprofit groups have the opportunity to earn money for an environmental project through a program honoring longtime Glenview park board commissioner Judy Grant.

In 2020, the Beck Family Foundation and Hurvis Family launched the Judy Beck Grant program in memory of Grant, who died of cancer in July 2019 after serving as park board commissioner for 32 years.

The program's goal is "to support generations of new conservation leaders to continue the great work and legacy of building and strengthening our local community," officials said, and in its first year it funded six green projects in Glenview.

This year, the Beck, Hurvis and Straus families will donate a total of $15,000 to one or multiple proposals that focus on environmental conservation, sustainability, community engagement or youth development.

Anyone in the state of Illinois can apply for the grant, though preference is given to initiatives that benefit the village of Glenview and the North Shore area, officials said.

Proposals should have "well-defined and quantifiable goals" and a timeline for completion, officials said. They must be completed within six months of receiving funds, though extensions may be granted in extenuating circumstances.

Submissions are due at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17, and winners will be announced on or around Feb. 1, 2022.
