US Attorney's Office Announces Results of "Operation Safe Christmas" - Effingham's News and Sports Leader, 979XFM and KJ Country 102.3 (thexradio.com) — Law enforcement agencies report that a suspect in the December 5 Granite City police shooting was among 63 fugitives arrested in a weeklong “Operation Safe Christmas” sweep. The multi-agency effort across several Illinois counties seized drugs and cash while highlighting cooperation between Granite City Police, U.S. Marshals, FBI, and Illinois State Police to target violent offenders.
   

2. Home Repair, Wire Fraud Among Madison County Theft Cases (riverbender.com) — A Granite City resident has been charged with felony deceptive practices after allegedly writing a $2,500 bad check to an Edwardsville cemetery, part of several recent Madison County fraud cases. Separate charges also target Collinsville and Bethalto men accused of home repair fraud, theft, and wire fraud involving an elderly victim and a nonprofit organization.
   

3. CHS hoop squad drops two tough SWC games (timestribunenews.com) — Collinsville’s boys basketball team recently faced tough Southwestern Conference losses and was scheduled to play at Granite City this week, with results pending at press time. The Kahoks stayed competitive against Belleville East and O’Fallon, led by standout performances from Jordan Taylor and strong contributions from several teammates.
   

4. Ivy Warren (riverbender.com) — Granite City is mourning the passing of 73-year-old Ivy Marcia Warren, a longtime resident who worked for decades at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Family and friends can pay their respects at visitation and services Friday evening, December 19, at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory, with memorials suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
