2 Trapped, Seriously Injured After Crash Leaves Truck In Marshland Near Grayslake

Firefighters had to rescue two seriously injured victims trapped in their vehicles after a crash left a truck in a marshy wetland near Grayslake Monday evening.

The Gurnee Fire Department, Grayslake Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:05 p.m. Monday to Gages Lake Road and North Tangueray Drive in Gages Lake for a traffic crash with injuries.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli said a preliminary investigation shows a 2020 Subaru sedan was southbound on Tangueray Drive.

The Subaru was attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound Gages Lake Road. The driver of the Subaru, a 76-year-old Gages Lake woman, turned directly in the path of a westbound 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck, Covelli said.

The two vehicles collided with each other.

The Dodge, driven by a 65-year-old Lindenhurst man, drove into the marshy wetlands on the south side of Gages Lake Road. Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by firefighters, Covelli said.

The man and woman were transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Covelli said citations will be issued to the driver of the Subaru.
