LAKE COUNTY, IL — A College of Lake County student was detained by federal immigration agents Monday near the CLC's Lakeshore campus in Waukegan.

College officials confirmed Border Patrol agents took the male student into custody near the corner of 34 N. Sheridan and Madison streets in an incident that "was witnessed by students, staff and community members," according to a post on the CLC Facebook page.

College officials say they have notified the student's family and connected them "to resources," according to the Facebook post.

"The college is in communication with local and state elected officials regarding the situation," according to an update from CLC officials Wednesday. "The college, in partnership with local community organizations, is working to support students and their families. Given that this matter involves ongoing federal proceedings and privacy protections, the college is unable to release additional details."

CLC Police, in accordance with Illinois law, does not participate in immigration enforcement operations, college officials said.
