Girl's Death After Dental Visit In Grayslake Investigated By Cook County Medical Examiner: Update

GRAYSLAKE, IL β The circumstances surrounding the death of a 17-year-old girl, who was taken to a hospital after visiting a dental clinic in Grayslake, are under investigation, officials with the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office told Patch.
Sophia Farmer, of Spring Grove, was rushed to the hospital on July 24 from the dental clinic at 875 E. Washington Street in Grayslake, according to media reports. She died at 5:47 p.m. on July 24 Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Natalia Derevyanny, director of communications for Cook County, told Patch.

Currently, the cause and manner of Farmer's death is pending, Derevyanny said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting testing, which includes histology. Histology is the study of the microscopic anatomy of cells and tissues, focusing on their structure and how that structure relates to their function.
Derevyanna said cultures, toxicology and specialty consults are also being conducted as part of the investigation.
