GRAYSLAKE, IL — A Grayslake teen was the only Illinois resident to make it to the finals at last week's Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Sahasrad Sathish, 13, ended up tying with five other spellers to finish in 9th place at this year's spelling bee, which included 234 spellers from across the nation. Sathish competed last year as well, finishing in 21st place, according to the Scripps National Spelling Bee website.
Sathish was eliminated in the eighth round of the bee after misspelling cypsela. Words he did spell correctly included: giallolino, apiculture, paleiform, Robenhausian and Augean.
