Lindenhurst Woman ID'd As Gurnee Crash Victim
The two other people involved in the Thursday, March 5 crash were taken to the hospital with injuries, according to Gurnee police.
GURNEE, IL β A woman killed Thursday during a two-car crash in Gurnee has been identified as Joan Lowry, 69, from Lindenhurst, according to the Lake County Coroner's office, the Daily Herald reported. Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said preliminary autopsy results show Lowry died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the Daily Herald.
The crash involving the woman and two others is being investigated by the coroner's office, the Gurnee Police Department and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team.
According to a news release from the Gurnee Police Department, officers were called at 4:50 p.m. Thursday for a crash with injuries in the area of Washington Street and Cemetery Road, and arrived to find a 2002 GMC Envoy and a 2013 Toyota Sienna both with heavy damage.

According to early investigation, the GMC was being driven eastbound on Washington Street, east of Cemetery Road, by a 71-year-old man while a 69-year-old woman was a passenger in the SUV, the news release said. The GMC crossed the center lane and hit a Toyota being driven westbound on Washington Street by a 37-year-old Grayslake woman head-on, according to police.
The driver of the GMC was taken by Gurnee Fire Department crews to a nearby hospital for his injuries, and the woman passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and only person inside the Toyota was also taken to a nearby hospital for injuries from the crash, according to the news release.
