The victim went to Williams’ home in Round Lake Park for a party, according to Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Lillian Lewis. Lewis said the victim and Williams are believed to be cousins and the two got into a verbal argument at the party.

Williams went upstairs, retrieved his gun out of a locked safe and came downstairs before realizing his gun was unloaded, Lewis said. He allegedly went back upstairs and loaded the gun before coming back downstairs.

Lewis said Williams told his children to get out of the way and pointed the gun at the victim. Williams fired seven or eight shots, Lewis said. The victim was shot three times in the lower leg.

The victim got out of the home, collapsed and was transported by someone else to the hospital. Williams’ attorney said in bond court that the victim was armed with a box cutter.

The defense attorney said the victim had threatened to kill Williams and Williams’ son, which prompted the shooting. The incident happened on August 14 and a warrant was issued for Williams’ arrest last week.

Lake County Judge James Simonian kept bond at $250,000, which was previously set on the warrant.

Williams has since been released from the Lake County Jail after posting $25,000 cash.
