Multi-Level Go Kart Track May Move Into Former Theater

A Texas-based company has purchased the former Round Lake Beach theater, with plans to open a family entertainment center.

ROUND LAKE BEACH, IL — A family entertainment center could be coming to the vacant Regal Cinemas in Rond Lake Beach that was severely damaged by an arson fire last April.

Texas-based Thakkar Developers of McKinney, Texas, is hoping to bring seven movie screens, full-service restaurant, games and other activities to the former theater at 550 E. Rollins Road, and bought the location at an auction, Gil Rivera, the village's economic development director, told the Daily Herald. Other possibilities for the 72,000-square-foot center include a multi-level indoor electric Go-Kart track, ax throwing and space for meetings.

The theater was among the Regal Cinemas to close in early 2023 prior to the 2024 fire.
