ANTIOCH, IL — Police reports released by the Antioch Police Department detail threats Kyle Rittenhouse and his mother received following the fatal shooting of two men in Kenosha, Wisconsin, this past summer.

Rittenhouse, 17, faces first-degree homicide charges following the shooting, which killed two men and wounded a third during protests and civil unrest on Aug. 25 in Kenosha. The uproar in the streets occurred following the shooting of Jacob Blake.

Many of the online messages, which included death threats, referred to Kyle and his mother, Wendy, as racists, and chastised Wendy for “raising a murderer.”

One woman, whose online profile indicated she lived in Antioch and studied at the College of Lake County, wrote: “I hope your son gets shot in the face right in front of you. I hope he suffers a painful death because you did not raise him well.”

Another man wrote that “we are going to make your home look like Beirut” and “we’re going to roast you like a fat [expletive] piggy,” according to screenshots of the messages provided to Patch in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

“Property can be replaced, lives cannot,” another person wrote to Wendy Rittnehouse. “I can’t wait until he gets [expletive] murdered so you feel each one of what his victims felt. He would’ve gotten a bullet between the eyes if I’d been there.”

“I’m sure jail will do him fine. Or your address and phone number being listed online,” the man went on to write.

The Antioch Police Department spoke with Kyle and his mother in the hours following the shooting after they went to the police department’s lobby at about 1:20 a.m. Aug. 26, according to police reports. While talking with them, Kyle said he “shot two white kids,” and also said he ended a man’s life. He told authorities he went to Kenosha to protect businesses amid the riots and, during that time, was hit in the head with a baseball bat, skateboard and hit in the lower neck before he fired the gun, according to the police report.

While talking with police, an officer noted Rittenhouse shifted between being very calm to breaking into fits of crying and throwing up, according to the police report.

Police also responded to the family's apartment in Antioch where they spoke with Rittenhouse's sisters during the early morning hours of Aug. 26. They were "obviously scared" and said "they were receiving messages from people about the shooting."

Dominick Black, 19, who faces charges in connection with providing Rittenhouse with the gun he used in the shooting, was also at the apartment with them.

That night, officers advised the Rittenhouse family to stay at another residence since their address had been posted on social media and police “were concerned for their well-being and concerned protestors could come to their apartment.”

That night, the city of Antioch also issued an emergency curfew on Aug. 26 in light of the social media posts regarding Rittenhouse and concerns over civil unrest.

During a hearing last month, Rittenhouse’s attorney, John Pierce, said his client was in danger, partially due to a "presidential candidate in arguably one of the most heated elections ever" that had "inflamed the situation."

Rittenhouse was extradited in recent weeks from a juvenile detention center in Vernon Hills to Wisconsin.

During an initial court appearance in Kenosha County, Rittenhouse’s bail was set at $2 million.

He is charged with first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Rittenhouse is accused of fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, of Kenosha, and Anthony Huber, 26, of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz, 26, of West Allis, Wisconsin.

He is next expected in court in Wisconsin for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 3.
