Vehicle Crashes Into Health Food Store In Antioch: Authorities

ANTIOCH, IL — A structural collapse response was dispatched to the scene after a vehicle crashed into a health food store in downtown Antioch Tuesday evening.

The Antioch Fire Department and Antioch Police Department responded around 5:08 p.m. Tuesday to Polson’s Natural Foods, 960 Main Street, for a report of a vehicle crash. Fire crews arrived to find a single-vehicle crash involving a vehicle that drove into the building.

A spokesperson for the Village of Antioch said early reports indicated there were no injuries but there is extensive damage. A large electrical pole in front of the Dairy Queen was struck by the vehicle before it crashed into the health food store.

Power is shut off to the immediate area and there was no immediate estimated time for restoration, the village spokesperson said.

Main Street was shut down between Lake Street and Ida Avenue due to the incident.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was activated to the box alarm level for a structural collapse response.

The alarm led to the dispatch of 15 fire departments and other specialized equipment from Lake County, McHenry County and Wisconsin.

It is unclear what led to the crash, which is being investigated by the Antioch Police Department.
