Waukegan Man Wanted For Criminal Sex Abuse Arrested In Louisiana

WAUKEGAN, IL β€” A Waukegan man wanted on a warrant out of Lake County for aggravated criminal sexual abuse was arrested in Louisiana Monday, the Lake County Sheriff's office said in a news release. On Monday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team with the U.S. Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS-GLRFTF), and U.S. Marshals Service – New Orleans Fugitive Task Force (USMS-NOFTF), arrested 26-year-old Mario J. Colindres-Galeano, from the 2100 block of Williamsburg Drive in Waukegan, the news release said.

On Dec. 4, Waukegan Police Officers obtained an arrest warrant for Colindres-Galeano for aggravated criminal sexual abuse, the news release said. On Dec. 10, another warrant was issued for the man for failure to appear on aggravated criminal sexual abuse and child pornography charges, according to the news release. The collective bond on the warrants was $1.5 million, the sheriff's office added.

Warrants deputies learned Colindres-Galeano was trying to avoid arrest, and learned during the course of the investigation that Colindres-Galeano left Illinois and was hiding in Louisiana, according to the news release.

On Thursday, warrants deputies contacted the USMS-NOFTF, and together determined Colindres-Galeano was hiding at a home in the 19400 block of Slemmer Road in Covington, LA. They served the arrest warrant Monday, and while approaching the home, Colindres-Galeano was seen trying to leave the home from the back hatch of a chicken coup, which was attached to the home, the sheriff's office said.

Colindres-Galeano was arrested and brought to the St. Tammany Parish Jail, where he remains held, awaiting extradition hearings.
