Woman, 79, Struck By Car While Walking In Roadway: Lake County Sheriff
Police believe the Ingleside resident may have memory issues and left her home Wednesday without her caretaker's knowledge.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 79-year-old Ingleside woman was critically injured Wednesday afternoon after police said she was struck by a car while walking in the roadway. A preliminary investigation reveals the woman may have memory issues and left her home without her caretaker's knowledge.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, at Big Hollow Road near Leonard Avenue in Ingleside. A 41-year-old Wood Dale resident was driving her Nissan Altima, traveling eastbound on Big Hollow Road. As she was traveling eastbound, police said she struck the woman, who appears to have been walking in the roadway.
Based on evidence at the scene, police believe the driver attempted to swerve to avoid striking the pedestrian, but was unable to.

Police said the driver, who is cooperating with the investigation, and a small child in the back seat were uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
