City Will Pick Up Storm Debris Next Week
Friday's storm, with gusts up to 40 MPH, downed many trees and limbs.

The following is from the City of Highland Park:
On September 5, 2014, Chicagoland experienced a severe storm with wind gusts in excess of 40 mph. The Public Works Department staff worked late into the night Friday and through the weekend to clean up tree debris and to fix a water main break. Clearing trees and limbs blocking City roadways was the top priority. As of Sunday night, all streets were open to traffic, and ComEd reported that power to all properties was restored.
During the week of September 8, Public Works staff will be picking up downed trees and broken limbs within the right-of-way at the curb. Privately-owned trees need to be picked up by home owners, except as noted below. The City will sweep the streets upon completion of clean up.

To assist residents with storm damage clean up, the City will be picking up downed limbs and branches on Monday, September 15 and Tuesday, September 16.
Residents may place downed tree branches and broken limbs in the parkway by Monday, September 15 no later than 7:00 a.m. Residents are reminded to place only storm-related tree debris in their parkway. The City will remove privately-owned tree branches or broken limbs as long as they are 8 inches in diameter or less and are placed on the parkway. Please refrain from putting tree debris on roadways or sidewalks.

Please note that only tree debris that can be picked up by hand or dragged to the parkway will be picked up. Residents hiring tree removal or landscaping companies to clear their properties need to have them remove and haul away all debris from privately-owned trees.
As the City copes with the storm clean up, routine operational maintenance tasks such as sidewalk and basin repairs, sewer flushing, and meter replacement will be delayed until the clean up is completed.
If you need additional information, please contact the Public Works Department at (847) 432-0807 during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During after-hours please contact the Police Department non-emergency number at (847) 432-7730.
