HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The information below comes from Highland Park and Highwood police and Lake County courts as a record of those arrested by police. Being arrested does not mean a person is guilty of the charged offense. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state are often dropped or reduced. Everyone named below is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Updated information about the following cases may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts.

INCIDENTS

PACKAGE THEFT
Someone stole a package from a porch in the 900 block of Central Avenue on July 13. The resident reported the theft on July 16. The total estimated loss was $75.

SIGN THEFT
Someone stole a yard sign from a front yard in the 900 block of Half Day Road on July 24. The total estimated loss is unknown.

CAR THEFT
Two metal carts valued at about $831 were stolen from Style Shack located at 1839 Second Street on July 24.

TRESPASSING
A passerby saw a male subject looking into windows of a home in the 1300 block of Sheridan Road on July 27. The homeowner said they did not know the person, who was issued a citation and ordered to appear in court in August.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A hole was found in a window at the back of a home in the 300 block of Barberry Road on July 27. Police were told the damage could have been caused by a BB gun.

SHOPLIFTING

  • Someone stole a Field System synthesizer valued at $2,000 from the Guitar Center located at 143 Skokie Valley Road between July 13 and July 14 and police were told on July 17.
  • Two unidentified male shoplifters stole merchandise from the Walgreen’s at 632 Roger Williams Ave. on July 21. Store staff reported that the pair left with two bags full of unknown items.

STOLEN CARS

  • Someone broke the driver’s side window of a Infiniti sedan at Muller Honda, 250 Skokie Valley Road, and stole the vehicle. The theft occurred on July 18, and the vehicle was last seen driving northbound on Skokie Valley Road.
  • Someone stole a possibly unlocked BMW SUV from a driveway in the 100 block of Green Bay Road overnight between July 25 and July 26 after its keys were left inside.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Someone entered an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 2000 block of Tennyson Lane between the night of July 15 and the morning of July 16. The vehicle's contents were disheveled, but nothing appeared to be taken.
  • Someone entered an unlocked car in the 1900 block of Cloverdale Avenue overnight between July 15 and July 16. Cash estimated to be between $40 and $60 was taken.
  • Someone entered a possibly unlocked car in the 2100 block of Churchill Lane overnight between July 15 and July 16. There were no signs of forced entry, but a driver’s license and insurance card were stolen.
  • Someone entered an unlocked car in the 1200 block of Eastwood Avenue overnight between July 15 and July 16. The vehicle was rummaged through, but nothing appeared to be taken.
  • Someone got into an unlocked car in the 800 block of North Avenue overnight between July 17 and July 18. Cash was taken from the glove compartment, with a total estimated loss of $20.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Denzel J. Hopkinsbey, 27, of the 3600 block of West 5th Avenue, Chicago, was arrested shortly after 6 a.m. on July 17 and charged with four firearm felonies following a traffic stop for failing to signal at Skokie Valley and Clavey roads. Police reported they found a gun on his person and prosecutors charged him with three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and one of possessing a weapon without a FOID card. Hopkinsbey was also cited for improper turn signal and processed on another, separate active arrest warrant. He had been wanted in connection with two gun-related offenses that took place July 6 in Gurnee.

Keon Terrel Smith, 25, of the 2600 block of North 51st Street, in Milwaukee, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on July 18 following a traffic stop on a traffic stop on Skokie Valley Road . Smith was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for having an unlicensed gun, unlawful possession of cannabis and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was also cited for improper display or attachment of license plates.

A 49-year-old Rockwall, Texas man was arrested around 1 a.m. on July 25 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and disobeying a traffic signal. Police spotted his car parked on the shoulder at Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. After an officer spoke to him, he drove away and was pulled over and arrested.

A 29-year-old Cicero woman was arrested around 3 a.m. on July 26 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop at Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue West. Officers, who had been dispatched to a report of an erratic driver, issued the woman citations for illegal transportation of alcohol, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage.

A 58-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 10 p.m. on July 30 in connection with a court-authorized search of his Ridgewood Drive home. He was charged with the misdemeanor offenses of possession of ammunition without a valid FOID and knowingly possessing a large-capacity ammunition feeding device.
