Foodie Fest Considered 'Highwood's Smelliest Event'

The 14th annual Highwood Garlic Fest will take place on Aug. 13.

HIGHWOOD, IL — The Highwood Garlic Fest, known to be the city's "smelliest event," is coming up next month.

Held in conjunction with Highwood's Evening Gourmet market, the 14th annual garlic fest will take place on Aug. 13 from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Everts Park.

"This foodie fest showcases a plethora of dishes with the ever-popular taste (and scent) of garlic, with a garlic trivia contest, live music and plenty of family-friendly activities to entertain all evening long. Not to worry, there will be plenty of mints on hand," festival runners said.

Attendees will be able to sample the many different ways garlic can be prepared, from garlic-infused chocolate, cookies and cocktails to the classic savory options like pizza, sandwiches and spreads.

Additionally, the event will recognize the beloved flavor of garlic with a competition for the best sweet and savory garlic creations in the people's choice and judge competitions. Attendees can cast their votes using the QR code ballot provided to them at the festival.

Winners will be announced at the main stage at 8 p.m.

In addition to garlic offerings, a wide range of local produce and treats will be available. From 6 to 9 p.m. the festival's soundtrack will be a live musical performance by Bill Pantle and the Tribute to Old Blue Eyes, featuring classic Sinatra, The Great American Songbook sponsored by Scotty’s on Sheridan.
