Highland Park Among Safest Suburbs In U.S.
A recent ranking listed Highland Park as one of the top 20 safest suburbs in the country.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — Highland Park was named one of the top 20 safest suburbs in the country, according to a new ranking.
The list of safest U.S. suburbs came from financial planning company SmartAsset. The company ranked 360 towns within 45 minutes driving distance of a major city based on the rates of violent crime, property crime, drug overdoses, traffic deaths and excessive drinking to determine America's safest suburbs.
Highland Park made the list at No. 14. According to the ranking's data, which came from the FBI, Highland Park has a 0.007 violent crime rate per capita and a 0.0116 property crime rate per capita. There are 7.58 traffic deaths per 100,000 people in Highland Park and a 19.51 percent excessive drinking rate.

Several other Midwest suburbs also made the list. Though it didn't make the top 20, Scottsburg, Indiana, was the only suburb with no reported violent crimes, according to the ranking. A total of 12 suburbs in Illinois made the list, including:
