Highland Park Veterans Day Ceremony Slated For Saturday

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The City of Highland Park will honor local veterans with its annual Veterans Day ceremony, which will be held at the Highland Park Library on Saturday, the city announced.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the library, which is located at 494 Laurel Ave. Representatives from the American Legion Post 145, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4737, and Jewish War Veterans Post 29 will be present.

The program will include comments from Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering, Commander Terry N. Traweek of Naval Station Great Lakes, the City's Poet Laureate Laura Joyce-Hubbard, and William Fireside of Honor Flight Chicago.

US Navy veteran Lawrence J. Sassarossi will be honored by the American Legion Post 145 as a Hero Among Us. The Highland Park High School Brass Quintet will perform patriotic music, the city said in a news release on Monday.

Administrative offices and the Senior Center will be closed on Friday, in observance of Veterans Day. Refuse and recycling pick-up will not be affected.
