Luxury Car Stolen From Garage; Jewelry Heist Nets Over $20,00: Blotter

Four people forced their way into a car dealership garage, stole a Porche and took three other sets of keys: Highland Park Police Blotter

HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The information below comes from Highland Park and Highwood police and Lake County courts as a record of those arrested by police. Being arrested does not mean a person is guilty of the charged offense. Criminal charges merely represent accusations by the state are often dropped or reduced. Everyone named below is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. Updated information about the following cases may be available from the Lake County Circuit Clerk of Courts.

INCIDENTS

SIGN THEFT
Someone stole a yard sign from the front yard of a home in the 900 block of Half Day Road prior to 10:30 p.m. on July 31. The total estimated value of the loss was $25.

GIFT CARD SCAM
An elderly gentleman was somehow scammed into purchasing $570 worth of Nordstrom gift cards at Jewel, 1600 Deerfield Road, and Sunset Foods, 1812 Green Bay Road, prior to 1 p.m. Aug. 1.

DELIVERY THEFT
Someone stole a DoorDash delivery worth an estimated $123 from a property in the 1800 block of Green Bay Road around 1 p.m. on Aug. 5.

SHOPLIFTING
Someone stole unspecified merchandise worth more than $143 from the Target at 2099 Skokie Valley Road at some point prior to noon on on Aug. 6.

PACKAGE TAMPERING
Merchandise ordered by a resident was stolen from a package believed to have been tampered with during transit. The theft was reported around 5 p.m. on Aug. 6, and the total estimated loss was $6,600.

BIKE THEFT
Someone stole an unlocked bicycle of unspecified value from a rack at Sunset Foods, 1812 Green Bay Road, around 7 p.m. on Aug. 6.

PURSE THEFT
Someone stole a wallet from a purse in an unlocked office at the Highland Park Public Library, 494 Laurel Ave., at 12:39 p.m. on Aug. 7. The total estimated loss was $15 in cash.

STOLEN JEWELRY
Jewelry belonging to a family member was stolen sometime between January and July from a home in the 600 block of Mulberry Place. The theft was reported on Aug. 8, and the total estimated loss was between $20,000 and $30,000.

VANDALISM
Someone defaced a yard sign with a marker in the 400 block of Woodland Road. The incident was reported around 5 p.m. on Aug. 9. The total estimated loss was not known.

TABLE THEFT
Someone stole two 6-foot tables from the southwest corner of City Hall at 1707 St. Johns Ave. The theft occurred between 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 and 10:00 a.m. on Aug. 7. The total estimated loss is unknown.

STOLEN CAR
Four unknown subjects forced entry into an overhead garage at Unlimited Auto Style, 3150 Skokie Valley Road, and stole a 2018 Porsche Macan GTS. The theft occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 13. In addition to the Porsche, three sets of keys belonging to other vehicles were taken, although those cars were not stolen.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole two iPhone cords from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway in the 2900 block of Idlewood Lane. The incident took place around at 10:45 a.m. on Aug. 15. The total estimated loss is unknown.

FLAG THEFT
Someone stole two yard signs and a flag/banner from a property in the 800 block of Pleasant Ave. on Aug. 15. The theft was reported at 10:22 a.m. on Aug. 16. The total estimated loss is unknown.

WALLET THEFT
Someone stole a wallet from an office in the 600 block of Elm Place on Aug. 19. The wallet contained a business debit card, which was later used for unauthorized purchases. The theft was reported around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 20. The total estimated loss was $395.

ATTEMPTED THEFT
Someone tried to steal tools from the back of a business truck in the 1000 block of Linden Ave. but dropped the tools and fled in a vehicle. The incident was then reported around 3 p.m. on Aug. 22.

TRESPASSING
Two subjects were found trespassing on the roof of Wayne Thomas Elementary School, 2939 Summit Avenue, at 1:19 a.m. on Aug. 24. The Highland Park Fire Department assisted in getting the subjects off the roof.

BROKEN WINDOWS

  • Someone damaged a classroom window at Ravinia Elementary School, 1936 Green Bay Road. The damage was discovered around 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 23. The total estimated loss is unknown.
  • Someone damaged a window at Trinity Grace Church, 1506 Half Day Road, sometime between Aug. 10 and Aug. 24. The damage was reported around 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 25.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 43-year-old Joliet man was arrested around 9:30 a.m. on July 31 and charged with aggravated driving with a suspended or revoked license after an officer witnessed a near collision at the intersection of Sherwood and Berkley roads. The man was also ticketed for failure to yield.

A 41-year-old Waltham, Massachusetts man was arrested around 9 a.m. on Aug. 1 and charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol after he crashed a car into the Porsche Exchange building, 2300 Skokie Valley Road. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage.

A 24-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 4 and charged with misdemeanor leaving the scene of a crash involving death or injury. Lake Forest police detained the suspected hit-and-run driver and turned him over Highland Park officers around Deerpath and Waukegan roads.

A 70-year-old Highland Park man was arrested around 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 4 and charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, assault and reckless driving after officers were dispatched to Sunset Road and Park Avenue West for a 911 call about a driving dispute. The man was also ticketed for disobeying a stop sign and improper lane usage.

A 19-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 5 and charged with criminal trespassing to state property after police were called to Wayne Thomas Elementary School, 2939 Summit Ave., for a report of a person walking around the building's perimeter. Officers determined he was the same person who entered the school on July 30.

An 18-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 6 p.m. on Aug. 6 and charged with reckless driving, driving without a license, possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis, illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver and unlawful purchase or sale of tobacco after police pulled him over for speeding in the 700 block of Judson Avenue.

A 33-year-old Waukegan man was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 10 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a valid license after officers spotted his car on the shoulder of Skokie Valley and Deerfield roads after it ran out of gas. He was also cited for illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, improper registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and registration suspended due to lack of insurance.

A 19-year-old Highwood man was arrested around 9 p.m. on Aug. 24 and cited for a minor in possession of alcohol and public intoxication after police got a call of a drunk person near the intersection of North and Summit avenues.

A 50-year-old Chicago woman was arrested around 4 a.m. on Aug. 25 and charged with driving under the intersection after she was involved in a crash at Orchard Lane and St. Johns Avenue. Officers also cited her for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
