Spring Cleaning: Recycle Clothes, Accessories, Household Items for a Good Cause

Highland Park residents can bring gently used items to a local drop-off spot on May 6. All items will be donated to nonprofit retailers.

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - In a joint effort led by the city and its park district, a convenient drop-off spot for gently used shoes, clothing, accessories, books and other items will soon be created for residents.

The City of Highland Park and Park District of Highland Park have partnered with Savers to make the site a reality. A Savers truck will be poised to receive donations on Saturday, May 6 between 9 a.m. and noon in the parking lot of the Hidden Creek Aqua Park at 1220 Fredrickson Place, according to a community alert.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to do some spring cleaning and recycle unused or unwanted household items," it said.

Residents bringing their gently used clothes and household items will be supporting the Savers family of stores. All of the sites are nonprofit, global thrift retailers devoted to offering high-quality gently used clothing, accessories and household goods.

The organization's business model of purchasing, reselling and recycling provides communities with a smart way to shop and keeps more than 650 million pounds of items out of landfills each year. Savers also lends a hand to more than 120 nonprofit organizations by paying them for donated goods, which supports vital community programs and services.
