4 Hinsdale Households Seek Subsidies For Preservation
The village created incentives for historic preservation three years ago.

HINSDALE, IL – Four Hinsdale households are seeking subsidies from the village for projects to improve their historic homes.
The houses are at 640 S. Park Ave., 213 S. Clay St., 518 S. Garfield Ave. and 306 E. First St.
Under a 3-year-old village incentive program, homeowners can propose things such as rear additions while keeping the historic character of their houses.

In return, the village grants property tax rebates, building fee waivers and sped-up processing of applications.
By contrast, the village has a slower, more involved process for reviewing proposals to demolish historic houses.

Under the program, Hinsdale rebates its portion of the property tax bill for five years. The amount is usually a fraction of a project's costs.
